Local Roundup: Results from Oct. 9

The Lehighton girls soccer and volleyball teams secured spots in the postseason with victories on Monday.

Elsewhere, Katelyn Barthold reached a scoring milestone for the Northern Lehigh girls soccer team.

BOYS SOCCER

Northern Lehigh-Tamaqua

Wyatt Steigerwalt’s hat trick helped Tamaqua gain a 4-1 non-league victory over Northern Lehigh.

Steigerwalt also added an assist as the Blue Raiders improved to 6-11.

The winners also received a goal and two assists from Cooper Ansbach, while Jathan Krall chipped in with an assist. Goalie Kevin Bazan made six saves without allowing a goal during his time in net.

For the Bulldogs, who dropped to 5-11-1, Ethan Moore scored his team’s only goal.

Northwestern-Hazleton

Logan Mesics scored four goals to help power Northwestern to an 8-4 non-league victory over Hazleton.

Jack Mauro added a pair of goals and an assist as the Tigers ended regular-season action with a perfect 18-0 record.

The winners also received tallies from both Jacob Van Lierop and Cole Mertz, while Matt Johnson finished with three assists.

Williams Valley-Marian

Marian gave Williams Valley all it could handle, but the Vikings pulled out a 5-4 double-overtime Schuylkill League victory.

The Colts received second-half goals from Jake Tom, Edison Mitchell and Miguel Capallan to force the overtime sessions.

Mitchell finished the contest with two goals and an assist, while Tom also provided a helper. The Colts (2-13; 2-8) also received assists from both Josh Fallabel and Nuredin Gjoca.

Marian goalie Jaxeson Werkheiser registered 18 saves.

Weatherly-Tri-Valley

Weatherly dropped a 5-1 Schuylkill League decision to Tri-Valley.

Alex Roselund scored the only goal for the Wreckers, who fell to 0-13 overall and 0-10 in the league.

Trent Higgins and Vincent Paisley assisted Roselund’s goal. Michael Davies made seven saves for the Wreckers.

GIRLS SOCCER

Palisades-Northwestern

Four different players scored as Northwestern posted a 4-0 Colonial League victory over Palisades.

Syenna Flores, Cammy Fitch, Sophia Schaffer and Juliet Benvin all scored for the Tigers, who improved to 16-1 overall and 12-0 in the league.

Benvin, Kherington Yezik, Paige Bissell and Katie Brensinger all registered assists.

Northwestern keeper Olivia Reinhart made three saves to earn the shutout.

No. Lehigh-Catasauqua

Katelyn Barthold set the school’s season and career record for goals during a 6-0 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Barthold finished the contest with four goals as the Bulldogs improved to 11-5 overall and 6-5 in the league.

Mikayla Gordon also scored twice and added two assists, while Vicky Hanna and Gabriella Hanna both chipped in with an assist.

Northern Lehigh goalie Dekota Barthold stopped four shots to gain the shutout.

Pleasant Valley-PM West

Aryn Stivala scored five goals as Pleasant Valley rolled to a 9-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.

Stivala also added two assists as the Bears improved to 7-10.

PV received two goals from Mya Manigo, while Katelyn Honadel and Emma Meyers accounted for the other Bear tallies.

Riley Green recorded three assists, and Hailey Klein chipped in with two. Manigo and Honadel both added a helper.

Pleasant Valley finished with a 29-2 advantage in shots.

Pen Argyl-Lehighton

Lehighton clinched a district playoff berth with a 4-0 non-league victory over Pen Argyl.

Sadie Monk, Avery Bauder, Leah Uyvari and Mylee Lutsko all scored for the Indians, who upped their mark to 9-6.

The winners also received assists from both Charli McHugh and Karissa Moyer.

Lehighton keeper Ciara Behrel recorded the shutout by making seven saves.

Schuylkill Haven-Tamaqua

Schuylkill Haven edged Tamaqua 2-1 in Schuylkill League action.

The Blue Raiders opened the scoring in the second half on a goal by Katie Frederick, who was assisted by Sarah Hope.

But the Hurricanes, who finished with a 15-6 advantage in shots, posted the contest’s final two goals - one each from Peyton Butz and Audrey Hutchinson.

Tamaqua, now 10-6 overall and 7-3 in the league, received 12 saves from goalie Cecelia Ulicny.

The Raiders won the JV game 1-0 on a goal from Siena Stellfox.

Williams Valley-Weatherly

Playoff bound Williams Valley cruised to a 9-0 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Juliette Bartel made 12 saves for the Wreckers, who fell to 2-12 overall and 0-12 in the league.

Jasmine Hechler led the Vikings (13-2; 10-2) with a hat trick.

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mtn.

Kylie Conway scored twice and Blue Mountain rolled to a 6-0 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Kylee Fehr and Allison Hoover also added goals for the Eagles (13-3).

With the loss, the Olympians fall to 4-11.

FIELD HOCKEY

Palisades-Northwestern

Cara Thomas led Northwestern with three goals in a 10-0 victory over Palisades in Colonial League play.

Taylor Langley also scored two goals for the Tigers (13-3-1).

Amelia Birch, Carsyn Van Norman, McKensey Miller, Makayla Bressi and Kaia Grantham all scored, while Hannah Gober had two assists.

VOLLEYBALL

Lourdes-Lehighton

Lehighton swept Lourdes for a 25-13, 25-17, 26-24 Schuylkill League win to secure a spot in the postseason.

Lyla Kershner had 19 digs and six aces for the Tribe (10-8). Autumn Clewell had two aces, two digs and two blocks, while Lorah Thomas added seven kills and three blocks. Jocelynn Kuhn had seven kills. Amanda Burns added four kills, two aces, two digs and a pair of blocks.

Jim Thorpe-Palmerton

Jim Thorpe posted a 25-10, 25-16, 25-7 non-league victory over Palmerton.

Brooke Mitzen sparked Olympians (13-2 overall) with 14 kills along with nine service points, three digs and two aces.

JaeLynn Browdy (16 assists, six digs, four kills, three service points, two aces), Maggy Hallihan (nine assists, seven digs, five service points, four kills, two aces) and Brianna Snisky (three kills and two blocks) helped Thorpe win its second straight.

Pleasant Valley-ES North

Pleasant Valley remained unbeaten thanks to a 25-5, 25-10, 25-10 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over East Stroudsburg North.

Lexi Womack (12 kills, three aces, three assists, three digs) and Rylee Ruggiero (10 kills, two digs) helped the Bears move to 16-0 overall (15-0 EPC), while Hannah Akob (seven aces, four kills) and Kara Miller (six kills) chipped in on the attack.

Brianna Bruckman (17 assists, five digs, two aces), Alexis Wilkes (11 assists, six digs, two aces) and Amiyah Poliseno (four digs, two assists) showcased the impressive depth that has PV two wins away from an unbeaten regular season.

So. Lehigh-Northwestern

Southern Lehigh posted a 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-22 Colonial League win over Northwestern.

Norah Silfies had 21 kills and five blocks for the Tigers (11-7) in the loss.

Shannon Green added 45 assists and 21 digs for Northwestern. Kylie Nagle recorded 39 digs and three aces.

Schuylkill Haven-Tamaqua

Schuylkill Haven topped Tamaqua 19-25, 20-25, 25-15, 22-25.

Freshman Madison Schock had six aces, four digs, nine assists and four kills for the Blue Raiders (4-16).

Leah Black recorded 10 digs and four kills, while Sarah Coccio added five aces, three digs, two kills and two blocks for Tamaqua, and Lacey Beers had 16 digs.

Panther Vy.-Holy Redeemer

Panther Valley suffered its first loss of the season in a 24-26, 14-25, 25-21, 21-25 defeat to Holy Redeemer in non-league play.

Natalie Vermillion recorded her 500th-career dig in the match and finished with five kills and 10 digs for the Panthers (15-1).

Morgan Orsulak added six kills and eight assists, while Emma Dacey also had three kills and four digs for Panther Valley.

The Panthers won the JV game 2-1.
