Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 29

Lehighton earned a split in action on Friday.

The volleyball team defeated Pocono Mountain West, while the field hockey team fell to Northwestern.

Amanda Burns had 11 kills to help Lehighton gain a non-league sweep of Pocono Mountain West 25-14, 25-14, 25-22.

Burns also added five digs and two aces as the Indians improved to 8-4.

Lyla Kershner contributed 21 digs and a pair of kills to the winning effort, while Makenna Snyder finished with seven kills.

Lehighton also received 31 assists and three aces from Autumn Clewell, and six kills from Lorah Thomas. Maddy Serfass chipped in with three kills and two aces.

The Panthers won the JV contest 25-14, 25-21.

FIELD HOCKEY

N’western-Lehighton

Northwestern jumped out to an early lead and then hung on to post a 3-2 non-league victory over Lehighton.

The Tigers led 2-0 after the first quarter on goals by Olivia Costa and Carsyn Van Norman, and extended to margin to three goals when Ella Dangello tallied in the second period.

Two goals in less than a minute, the second one by Anna Howland, during the third quarter trimmed the score to 3-2.

Northwestern received seven saves for Emma Yanders, while Lehighton’s Greyson Frey made six stops.

The win lifts the Tigers to 9-3-1, while Lehighton dips to 8-3.
