Palmerton church’s domes get fresh coat of paint

The domes on top of a Palmerton church that welcomes visitors to the borough have been repainted.

Work was completed last Thursday on the pair of domes that grace St. Vladimir Greek Catholic Church, 101 Lehigh Ave.

Sobrinski Painting Inc. of Allentown began the work on Sept. 11, according to Jim Chalus, secretary.

Chalus said the project cost $30,000, much of which paid for the 135-foot lift used to paint the domes.

He said the church received several donations to help pay for the project.

“We intended to paint them gold; that is not paint on the domes, it’s actually an industrial coating Sherman Williams (has), and this is what they call gold,” Chalus said. “It looks probably closer to yellow than gold, but it looks gold enough for me.”

Chalus added that the past pastor of the church had asked them to get the domes painted, as they “looked kind of ratty.”

“We’re happy that they did it and happy they got it done, and happy to get the lift out of the street; they came this (Monday) morning,” he said. “Other than that, periodic maintenance.”

Fr. Volodymr Kozak is the new pastor/administrator at the church. Kozak lives in Palmerton, in the parish home behind the church.

The previous pastor of the parish retired in August 2022.

Chalus said Divine Liturgy is served at 9 a.m. Sunday mornings, and generally 9 a.m. during the week.

He said the schedule is posted on the front door of the church each week.
