TN/LVHN Athlete of the Week Poll

Here are the nominations for the Times News/Lehigh Valley Health Network Athlete of the Week.

The poll will go live on the Times News Lehighton Sports Facebook page with the following list of candidates later today, and close tomorrow at 3 p.m. with the winner determined by the most votes received.

The winner will be featured in Wednesday’s paper.

Athlete of the Week

Sept. 18-24

Levi Kunkel, Tamaqua Boys Cross Country - Kunkel placed first with a time of 17:42 as the Blue Raiders went 3-0 on Wednesday. Kunkel placed first with a time of 20:43 at the Schuylkill Haven Invite on Saturday as the Blue Raiders placed first as a team.

Brooke Mitzen, Jim Thorpe Volleyball - Mitzen was a big part of a 3-0 week for the Olympians. She finished with 46 kills, 21 digs and four aces as Thorpe moved to 9-1 with straight set wins over North Schuylkill, Tamaqua and Schuylkill Haven.

Katelynn Barthold, Northern Lehigh Girls Soccer ­- Barthold scored nine goals as the Bulldogs (9-1) rang up wins over Palisades, Wilson and Catasauqua last week. She scored five in a win over the Roughies Saturday, and four in a win over the Warriors Thursday.

Brianna Bruckman, Pleasant Valley Volleyball - Bruckman finished with 69 assists – including the 1,000th of her career – 34 digs, 10 kills, seven aces and three blocks as the Bears advanced to the semis in the Northampton Tournament Saturday. In wins over Allen, Stroudsburg and Whitehall, Bruckman tallied 75 assists, 23 digs, six kills, three blocks and one ace for unbeaten PV (11-0).

Jaxson Strauss, Lehighton Boys Soccer - Strauss scored three goals as the Indians posted wins over Tamaqua and Pottsville last week. He had the go-ahead score in the second half in a 2-1 win over the Blue Raiders Tuesday, and added a goal in each half against the Tide.
