NCC offers health care fall programs

CNA training

Northampton Community College has several options this fall for those looking to pursue a career in health care.

NCC’s Certified Nurse Aide training program prepares participants with the skills needed to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Competency Examination in as little as four weeks.

As a CNA, people can work in a long-term care facility, hospital or other health care setting.

Join NCC for a free, virtual information session at 5 p.m. on Sept. 6, Oct. 4, or Nov. 8 to learn more about the CNA program and its requirements. Attendance is strongly encouraged for those considering enrolling in the CNA program.

Phlebotomy technician

NCC is also offering a comprehensive phlebotomy technician course in the fundamentals and practice of phlebotomy (blood specimen collection), at both the Monroe and Fowler campuses to prepare students for the national certification exam.

This course will start Sept. 18 at the NCC Monroe Campus in Tannersville, and Sep. 19 at the NCC Fowler Family Southside Center in Bethlehem.

Lecture topics include venipuncture, capillary collection, safety, medical terminology, orientation to the clinical laboratory and health care setting, specimen handling and processing, and reviewing vital signs. Students spend 120 hours practicing blood collection techniques under supervision.

The student then must complete 100 successful venipunctures in a minimum of 80 hours at a clinical site. Upon completion of the course, students are eligible to sit for national certification examinations and may seek employment as phlebotomists.

Community health workers

Additionally, anyone who wants to have a positive impact on the community and have a passion for helping others, NCC is offering free virtual information sessions about a career as a community health worker on Sept. 19, Oct. 10 and 24.

Community health workers help individuals overcome barriers to care by linking them to their local community resources.

NCC’s accredited course is geared toward participants who want to work in community-based or inpatient settings, and topics include the role of the community health worker, ethics and professional skills, teamwork and communication, documentation and assessment procedures, chronic disease overview, accessibility to health care services, care coordination and system navigation.

Join NCC for a free fact-finding information session to learn about the career, training program and how to get started.

Virtual pharmacy technician

In as little as 30 hours, NCC’s Virtual Pharmacy Technician Training and Exam Preparation program prepares students for the certified pharmacy technician certification exam. Those who pass the Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians or Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam are granted the title of certified pharmacy technician.

The ExCPT Exam is offered through the National Health Career Association and is NCCA approved. Exam fee is not included in the tuition.

The online program is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Oct. 10 to Nov. 16 and is designed for those seeking an entry-level position in a retail pharmacy setting or those working in the field who would like to expand their employment opportunities.
