Lansford couple injured in truck crash on I-81

A Lansford couple sustained suspected minor injuries in a four-vehicle crash at 1:31 p.m. July 2 on Interstate 81 in Hazle Township.

State police at Hazleton said Arthur Williams, 80, and Mary Williams, 77, were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton.

Police said Arthur Williams was driving a 2013 Buick Lacrosse that was hit by a rig that had changed lanes. After the impact, the Williams’ car struck the left rear of a 2003 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer driven by Frank Croce, 65, of Greentown, and then began to spin when it was struck by a 2004 Western Star operated by Abdou Sane, 45, of Bernardston, Massachusetts. Police said the driver of the tractor-trailer that caused the pileup pulled onto the east shoulder of the road and then fled the scene in a northbound direction.

The Williams’ car sustained disabling damages to its front, rear and passenger sides.
