Carbon County commissioners’ meeting

The Carbon County Commissioners acted on or discussed the following items during their weekly meeting on Thursday:

• Approved a work-base learning program agreement with Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 for the 2023-2024 school year that will allow young adults with disabilities to complete job training in the archives department. This has been an ongoing program.

• Reappointed William Richards to continue to serve as the representative of Sen. David Argall on the action committee. The motion is retroactive to Dec. 1.

• Approved two letters of agreement with the Action Community of Human Services to provide any and all assistance requirements under the Homeless Assistance Program guidelines and funding provisions in the amount of $27,359 through June 30, 2024; as well as to the Human Services Development Fund Program in the amount of $50,000 through June 30, 2024.

• Reappointed Kim Miller, executive director of the Carbon County Action Committee of Human Services, and Marybeth Ferguson, assistant regional director of the Bureau of Workforce Partnership and Operations, to the Pocono Counties Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Development Board. Terms expire June 30, 2026.

• Resignation: Michael V. Melvin of Weatherly, seasonal park ranger I, effective June 17.

• Date of hire correction: Alea Gillen of Jim Thorpe, lifeguard, effective June 24.

• Hires: Owen W. Serfass of Lehighton, lifeguard, effective June 16; Depinder and Gurvinder Singh, both of Hazle Township, county caseworker I, Children and Youth Services, effective June 27; Peter R. McGinley of Andreas, lifeguard, hiring contingent upon meeting all requirements.

• Prison board appointment: Steven Otero of Mahanoy City, corrections officer, effective June 19.

• Controller’s office: Change of status: Michele A. Gallagher of Jim Thorpe, from fiscal data processing specialist to fiscal data processing assistant II, effective June 19.

• District attorney’s office: Change of status: Timothy R. Wuttke of Tamaqua, from secretary I, district judge Weatherly to county detective, effective June 26.

• Register of wills: Appointment: Brittany A. Shannon of Lehighton, second deputy, effective June 26.

• Sheriff’s office: Resignation: Kelly J. Sheridan of Summit Hill, administrative assistant, effective June 25; change of status: Tara L. Trainer of Lehighton, from civil process clerk to administrative assistant, effective June 26; and Mark D. Shoemaker of Albrightsville, deputy sheriff, effective June 19.
