A Shenandoah man who police said is a known Latin King gang member was arrested by state police at the Bethlehem barracks and jailed following an incident at 4:28 p.m. May 12 on U.S. Route 22 in South Whitehall Township.

Michael Gabino, 28, is charged with illegal possession of a firearm.

Police said they conducted a traffic stop of a 2015 Dodge Charger that was driven by Gabino. During a search of the vehicle, police found a 9mm gun that contained nine rounds of luger ammunition in the center console of the car. The officer said he removed the glock 9mm magazine from the gun and an additional round was recovered from its chamber.

Police said they learned Gabino has several felony convictions out of New York. A criminal gang member warning was attached to his criminal history and stated he is a known member of the Latin King gang, police said.

Gabino was committed to the Lehigh County Prison, Allentown, while officials work with New York State Intelligence Center in their investigation.
