Several Schuylkill county fire companies are battling a large brush fire in Rush township. The blaze was reported around 1 p.m. north of East Main street just west of the village of Quakake. Firefighters are hampered by gusty winds, dense brush and a steep terrain. The National Weather Service says relative humidity values are forecast to drop into the 20 to 25% range from late this morning into early this evening, with wind gusts expected. The anticipated weather conditions in combination with the recent stretch of dry weather will result in
an elevated risk for the spread of wildfires today. Use extra caution.
