Padora, Hetherington in; Halcovage out in Schuylkill

Incumbent Schuylkill County Commissioner George Halcovage Jr. appears to have lost his bid for re-election.

Halcovage, whose last term was marred with controversy as four female courthouse employees have accused him of sexual harassment. Halcovage finished seventh in a field of eight candidates.

The top vote-getter on the Republican ballot was Tamaqua businessman Larry Padora with 5,871 unofficial votes.

Two spots are available to challenge the Democrats in November.

With 100 percent of the votes in, Barron “Boots” Hetherington, a full-time farmer and commissioner, was the second top vote-getter with 5,210 unofficial votes,

Other candidates are, Mary Jo Moss, 4,534; Maria Casey, 3,751; Jeffrey J. Dunkel, 2,819; Dan Evans, 2,674; incumbent Halcovage, 2,545 and Ray Jones, 2,001.

On the Democratic side, incumbent Gary J. Hess is campaigning for another term in office. Also running is Rita Anczarski Baldino, Kline Township.
