American Legion purchases new flags for Tamaqua

C.H. Berry American Legion Post 173 in Tamaqua has purchased American Flags for the community. The flags will be displayed throughout the downtown for community parades and at other patriotic times.

At a cost of nearly $2,500, the Legion is honored to be able to make this contribution and would like to thank all of its’ members without whom this would not be possible, said Michael J. Polyak, judge advocate; Thomas D. Isleib, post commander; and David Meredith, post adjutant.

The American Legion was associated, in part, to foster and perpetuate Americanism; and inculcate a sense of obligation to the community. C.H. Berry Post dignifies these values through this contribution.

The old flags, last purchased by the Legion for the “Tamaqua Remembers” Celebration, became weathered and worn and it became time for their replacement. The new flags will be put out shortly for display during the Tamaqua Memorial Day parade.

The Legion also salutes the Tamaqua Rescue Squad members, who assist each time the flags are put on display and in their retrieval and storage at the Post.

And a special thanks goes out to all the members and residents who contributed to our Flag Fund. Since the flags are costly and must be replaced every couple years, the Legion is always taking donations specifically earmarked for purchasing flags.

Any individual or business that would like to contribute may send a check to American Legion Post 173 Flag Fund, 206 W. Broad St., Tamaqua PA 18252. The contribution is tax-deductible on federal taxes.
