Pennsylvania State Police — Lehighton

Pennsylvania State Police at Lehighton reported on several incidents that were recently investigated.

Troopers did not identify the individuals involved unless otherwise noted.

• A 30-year-old Effort man is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after a traffic stop made by state police.

Police stopped the man while he was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima at 1:37 a.m. March 16 on Kresge Farm Road in Chestnuthill Township.

• Trooper are investigating a theft by deception case in Towamensing Township.

Police said they were called to a residence on Interchange Road and advised someone made fraudulent purchases on the victim’s checking account between April 8 of last year and Feb. 22 of this year.

• State police at the Lehighton barracks are investigating the theft of a license plate off a vehicle in Polk Township.

The victims are a 62-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man from Palmerton who reported someone stole the plate off their 1989 Ford Ranger pickup that was parked along Rolling View Drive in the township.

Police said the vehicle had not been driven for years.

• Mohamed S. Qureshi, 61, of Kunkletown, escaped serious injuries in a one-vehicle crash that happened at 12:05 a.m. March 12 on Mountain View Drive in Polk Township.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said he was driving a 1999 Mercedes-Benz west when he fell asleep at the wheel. The car drifted onto the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole and tree.

Police said he sustained suspected minor injuries and refused a medical transport.

• A 57-year-old man from Gilbert is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance after a traffic stop conducted by state police.

Police said they stopped the 2022 Mazda at 8:42 p.m. March 3 at the intersection of Rt. 29 and the McIlhaney Road in Chestnuthill Township.

• A 30-year-old man from Owings Mills, Maryland, was arrested by state police at the Lehighton barracks on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance after a traffic stop they made at 4:35 p.m. Feb. 28.

Police said they stopped the man for multiple traffic violations while driving a 20202 Lexus at the intersection of Interchange Road and Mopar Lane in Polk Township.
