Drugs found in I-80 traffic stop

A Michigan man was committed to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, on drug-related charges after a traffic stop made by state police at the Fern Ridge barracks at 2:44 a.m. March 7.

The 35-year-old resident of Melvindale was stopped at 2840 Interstate 80 eastbound in Tobyhanna Township for Motor Vehicle Code violations. He showed signs of drug use and failed a field test.

Police seized approximately one pound of a heroin mixture that was concealed in the vehicle.

The man was taken into custody and charged with manufacture, delivery or possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture or deliver it, possession of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of narcotics and multiple traffic violations.

Following is arraignment, he was remanded to the jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Police did not release his name.
