Secretarial staff the biggest change in Ross Twp.

Ross Township supervisors held their reorganization meeting Tuesday evening, followed by a regular meeting.

James Zahoroiko remained chairman, David Shay remained vice chairman and Randy Detrick is the third supervisor.

The supervisors made a significant to change to the secretary-treasurer position, changing it from a full-time position held by Danielle Romano to a part-time position.

During Tuesday’s meeting, they appointed Deb Brown to the secretary-treasurer role, which will pay $26,000 annually and does not include a benefits package. Brown will continue to serve as the planning commission secretary, which pays $100 per monthly meeting.

Brown had been the part-time secretary since March 2022 and worked alongside Romano until Tuesday afternoon. Romano did not attend the evening meeting.

Brown was also named the open records officer during the meeting.

Detrick said they decided to realign their township. Supervisors did not offer any more insight into the personnel matter. They purposely left the part-time secretary position vacant during the reorganization.

Many roles stayed the same: road foreman Ethan Brewer; solicitor Tim McManus; representative from Cramer, Swetz, McManus & Jordan as the alternate solicitor; Keystone Consulting Engineers, engineer; Nate Oiler, alternate engineer; SFM Consulting, zoning and codes officer and the alternate; SFM Consulting, building code official and the alternate; sewage enforcement officer Ryan Engler; sewer enforcement alternate Jonathan Shupp; zoning hearing board solicitor James Fareri and alternate is someone from the firm Newman, Williams, Mishkin, Corvelyn, Wolfe & Fareri; planning commission solicitor Michael Gaul of the firm King, Spry, Herman, Freund and Faul and the alternate is someone from that office; emergency management coordinator Brian Stankovich; earned income tax liaison is Berkheimer; CPA auditors Kirk Summa and Company; UCC Joint Board of Appeals member David Bray; Vacancy Board Member David Trout; Zahoroiko as the Pocono Mountains Council of Government representative; Shay as delegate to the Monroe County Tax Committee; and Shay as AG Security representative.

They decided any supervisor who is available to attend can be the voting delegate to the state convention, as well as the PSATs delegate to attend the Annual Education Conference.

Zahoroiko was named CJERP (Chestnuthill, Jackson, Eldred, Ross, Polk) regional planning committee voting member, and Roger Christman was named as the second member.

Christman, Rick Meixsell and Frank Pirano were reappointed to the planning commission.

The monthly supervisors meeting will continue to be held at 6 p.m. on the first Monday of the month. If a holiday occurs that day, the meeting will be held the following Monday.

Supervisors voted for a 3% pay raise for Brewer, labor operators and part-time laborer.

They voted to keep the treasurer’s bond at $800,000. The holidays and benefits package will also remain the same as in 2022, they said. Employees have 12 paid holidays, and the office is closed two days when the building is used as an election polling place.

The township will pay 65.5 cents per mile, which is the new federal rate.

During their regular business meeting, Brewer asked if residents could promptly move their garbage cans from the roadways once their trash has been picked up each week. When his crew had to plow snow recently, they had to move many out of the road.

Martha Rezeli, secretary of the Ross Township Historical Society, announced that starting this Saturday, their museum will be open the first Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is free to the community and guests can peruse Ross Township’s past.
