Schuylkill man pleads guilty in gun-pointing incident

A Schuylkill County man is facing a jail term after pleading guilty to a charge of terroristic threats in a gun-pointing incident.

Bobby Jo Williams, 48, of Coaldale, appeared in Carbon County court on Tuesday to enter the plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II. He was arrested on Sept. 24, 2022, by Lansford police. In exchange for the guilty plea, three counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count of simple assault were dropped in a deal with the district attorney’s office.

Nanovic noted, however, that the commonwealth was invoking the deadly weapon enhancement provision. He said state sentencing guidelines for the enhancement indicates a minimum prison term of somewhere between 6 or 7 months, up to 5 years be imposed.

Williams was arrested after Lansford police responded to a report of a domestic incident with a handgun used at a residence in the borough. Police learned from a man that he received threatening text messages from Williams in which he mentioned he had a weapon.

The man said Williams later appeared at his home and pointed a handgun at him. Police said the gun was fully loaded and when Williams pointed at the man there were two young children standing near by.

Williams, when asked by Nanovic with those facts were true, responded that they were true.

Nanovic accepted the plea but deferred sentencing. At the request of the defendant the adult probation office was ordered to prepare a presentencing investigation report.
