Guilty pleas in Carbon County

A Carbon County woman pleaded guilty in the county court on Tuesday to theft and trespass charges.

She was one of five defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Mahoning incidents

Christianna Hahn, 32, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of retail theft for an incident on Feb. 28, 2020, at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township.

She then entered a plea of defiant trespass for an incident on May 17, 2020, at the store. She entered the store after being told previously not to enter the store. The charge was added to the original complaint in which she was charged with another retail theft.

Nanovic accepted the pleas but deferred sentencing, ordering the adult probation office to prepare a pre-sentence investigation report.

Other pleas

John T. Shubeck, 20, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of defiant trespass. He was arrested by Lansford police on July 25, 2022, when officers were sent to the Lansford Townhouse complex for an unwanted man at a residence. Shubeck was found in the home of his then ex-girlfriend, and was previously told not to be there.

He was placed on probation for a year concurrent with a probation period he is serving for simple assault.

Betty Jo Ryder, 40, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of false identification to law enforcement. She was arrested by Lansford police on Oct. 13, 2022, in the parking lot of Boyer’s Market where she gave a false name to an officer.

She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation. The term runs concurrent with a sentence she is serving in the county prison for a probation violation.

Veronica Lynn Vogel, 26, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of flight to avoid apprehension. She was arrested on Sept. 30, 2022, by Lansford police at a residence in the borough. Police received information she was at the residence and went to serve a warrant. She hid from the officers and was eventually found in a closet in the home.

She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations. She must also supply a DNA sample.

Lori A. Trinkle, 55, of Summit Hill, pleaded to the summary offense of failure to stop and render aid. She was involved in a crash on Dec. 12, 2021, in Mahoning Township but left the scene. A charge of accident causing damage to attended vehicle was dropped in a plea deal.

She was fined $25 and costs.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
