Basket raffle benefits firefighters’ families

More than 100 baskets were raffled off Sunday at the Lansford American Legion Post in a fundraiser for the families of two firefighters killed while battling a blaze in West Penn Township. There were also five “big ticket items” up for grabs. Looking over the baskets are Ashly McArdle, back, manager of the Legion, who was assisted by Taylor Paton, front, a bartender there. It was McArdle’s idea for the event. She said, “A lot of our friends are firefighters and the commander of the Legion Post (Nathan Krajcirik) is a professional firefighter. They respond to calls anytime they’re needed.” Benefiting were the families of Zachary Paris and Marvin Gruber, who were members of the New Tripoli Fire Company. They were killed during a rescue attempt at a dwelling fire on Dec. 7 along Clamtown Road in West Penn. RON GOWER/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
