Two sentenced to state prison in Schuylkill Co.

Schuylkill County President Judge Jacqueline L. Russell recently accepted guilty pleas from and sentenced two local men to state prison.

Isiah J. Kechula, 24, of Barnesville, was charged by Mahanoy City Police Officer Thomas J. Rentschler with burglary and criminal trespass on June 29.

Judge Russell sentenced him to one to three years in state prison.

The trespass charge was dropped.

Thomas J. Kehl, 32, whose last known address was Coaldale, was charged by Tamaqua Police Officer Karl L. Harig with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, first offense; driving under the influence of a Schedule 1 controlled substance, first offense; driving under the influence of a Schedule 2 or 3, controlled substance, first offense; driving under the influence of a metabolite, first offense; and reckless driving on April 24.

Judge Russell sentenced him to one to two years in state prison.

She also sentenced Kehl to serve 10 hours of community service and fined him $500.

On the second charge, Russell sentenced Kehl to 72 hours to six months in jail, to be served at the same time as the sentence for the first charge; fined him $1,000; serve 10 hours of community service; undergo a license suspension of 12 months; successfully complete Alcohol Highway Safety School; and participate in substance abuse treatment programs while in prison.

She also fined Kehl $25 on the reckless driving charge.

The remaining charges were dropped.
