Area Christmas festivities start this weekend

• Lansford Alive and the American Fire Co. #1 of Lansford hosting annual Santa parade and tree lighting in Kennedy Park today. The event begins with a parade through town, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The tree lighting at Kennedy Park will begin around 5 p.m., with Mayor Hugh Vrablic as Master of Ceremonies, Panther Carolers, Angela Nardini, Santa, Mrs. Claus, and his elves will then arrive and greet the children.

• West End Festival of Lights, Thursday through Sundays, 5-9 p.m. at the West End Fairgrounds, Fairground Road, Gilbert. 100,000 lights and three mega trees sequenced to music. Food and craft vendors. Admission. www.wefol.com.

• “The Greatest Story Ever Told,” an ecumenical cantata of nearly 80 singers will come together to present this concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary at Zion United Church of Christ on Second and Iron streets in Lehighton.

• The Carbon Model Railroad Society will hold its Holiday Open House at 529 Ore Street in Bowmanstown on Thursdays, Dec. 1 and 8 and on Jan. 5 from 7-9 p.m. It will also be open on Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 26-27, Dec. 3-4, Dec. 10-11 and Jan. 7-8 from 1-4 p.m. Admission is free; donations are welcome, 610-826-6636.

• The Annual Tamaqua Spirit of Christmas Festival will get underway Dec. 1 with a Mistletoe Reception at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center; Dec. 2, an Elf Workshop will be held at Lehigh Carbon Community College on High Street in the borough. College students will oversee activities for children between 4 and 5 p.m.; Dec. 2, Santa Parade at 6 p.m. followed by the lighting of Depot Square Park at the Five Points intersection; Dec. 3, a Breakfast with Santa, 9 a.m. at the Perla Enterprises Building (former Salvation Army), See story on page 8.

• Jim Thorpe’s Memorial Park First Festival of Trees at 6 p.m. Dec. 1 at the park along East 10th Street. Residents, businesses or groups can purchase a four-foot tree for $45 and then decorate it between Nov. 27 and Dec. 1.

A registration form is available on the borough website, www.jtborough.org. A hard copy can also be obtained by visiting the borough office during business hours.

• Jim Thorpe Tree Lighting, 5 p.m. Dec. 2, Josiah White Park, Main St., hot chocolate, live music by vocalist Dina Tulli Davis, TNT Dancers, Jim Thorpe Marching Band and Santa.

• Nesquehoning Christmas tree Lighting, 6 p.m. on Dec. 2 at the tree along West Catawissa Street across from Turkey Hill. Everyone is invited to attend. Following the lighting, Meed’s church will hold caroling and refreshments.

• The Concourse Club’s “Deck the Halls” Holiday House Tour from 4-8 p.m. Dec. 2, inclement weather date, Dec. 3.

In addition to the homes, there is a hospitality center, located at Holy Trinity Church, 5th Street and Lafayette Avenue, where complimentary food and beverages will be served and local musicians will be performing holiday music.

Honor students from the Palmerton High School will be caroling throughout town. Tickets are available for advance purchase at the Palmerton Area Library and The Heritage Center, both located on the 400 block of Delaware Avenue in Palmerton. • The Christmas tree Lighting ceremony will be held by the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce from 5 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 2 at Memorial Park in Slatington, vendors, performances, refreshments.

• SS Peter & Paul Church, Lehighton annual Christmas Festival on Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Dec. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a gift basket auction, bake sale and homemade food available.

• 2022 Carbon County Black Forest Krampusnacht, Dec. 3, noon to 6 p.m., Pocono Whitewater, 1519 State Route 903, Jim Thorpe. In Partnership with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce of Commerce, Pocono Whitewater Rafting and Big Creek Vineyard and Winery, The Carbon Chamber & Economic Development, on-site parking, bonfire for s’mores and storytelling, vendors and food.

• Palmerton Christmas in the Park, noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 3, Palmerton Borough Park. Entertainment is scheduled throughout the day including the Towamensing Elementary School Chorus, the students from Off the Charts Music School, horse drawn carriage rides by Steiner Artisan Farm from 1-4 p.m., a complimentary face painter and Santa will be in the Bandstand for the children to visit from 1-3 p.m. Children must be in line by 2:30 p.m.

The Holiday Lighting Committee will be accepting donations in the Bandstand of nonperishable food products to support CACPAC, as well as, toy donations for the local holiday toy drive.

• Walnutport Tree Lighting, 2-5 p.m. Dec. 3, S. Lincoln Ave., with food trucks, including Mr. Doggy Style, Caribbean Islands Cuisine, and The Rolling Barista,

candy cane hunt at 3 p.m., tree lighting ceremony will be around 5 p.m.

• Annual tree lighting and visit with Santa, Dec. 3 in Ross Township. Santa will arrive on a Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder firetruck at 4 p.m. After the tree lighting, Santa will visit with guests inside the municipal building. Hot cocoa will be served.

• Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club Breakfast with Santa, Dec. 3 with seatings at 8:30 or 10:30 a.m. at the Lehighton Boys & Girls Band Hall at 197 N. Sixth St., Lehighton. Seating is limited.

• The Tamaqua Historical Society Museum on West Broad Street will hold an Open House Dec, 3 and 4 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

• Christmas on the Hill, 4-8 p.m., Dec. 4, Ludlow Park, Summit Hill. Christmas caroling, complimentary cookies and hot chocolate will at 5:30 p.m., with Santa’s arrival about 6 p.m.

• Lehighton Christmas in the Park, 3-6 p.m. Dec. 4, Upper and Lower parks,

hosted by the Lehighton Borough Parks & Recreation Board, 3 to 5:30 p.m., free kids crafts, Santa arrives on the Lehighton Fire Truck at 4 p.m., Kids bicycle drawing; 6 p.m., tree lighting ceremony with caroling by the Pale Moon Players.

• Christkindlmarkt at the SteelStacks in Bethlehem, weekends through Dec. 19. This year ArtsQuest will debut The Ice Rink at SteelStacks. Skating will run from Nov. 22-Jan. 1. Tickets, Christmascity.org.
