Breakfast served

The Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company, Kresgeville, is holding an all-you-can-eat fundraising breakfast from 7 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Children ages 5 and under eat for free.

Youth Sleep-out

St. Matthew’s will be hosting the annual Youth Sleep-out for Homelessness Saturday and Sunday in the church grove.

This event is for 7th through 12th graders; they will sleep outside in a large box (or their own tent) during an overnight homeless simulation.

Youth will get the chance to meet other youth from sister churches in the conference and engage in activities that are fun but provide valuable lessons on homelessness.

This event starts at 7 p.m. and participants should eat dinner beforehand. The happening will end with a simple breakfast on Sunday morning as youth need to be picked up by 7 a.m.

Participants are asked to raise $25 that will support the Lehigh County Conference of Church’s work with the homeless.

Breakfast served

Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 839 of Sciota invites the community to its final monthly pancake breakfast of 2022, on Sunday. The breakfast features all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, orange juice, pastries and coffee. A giant striped tent provides shade and ambience for breakfast diners as they are surrounded by private aircraft and Jeeps.

The Jeep Enthusiasts of Eastern PA are tentatively scheduled to proudly display their many vehicles.

Additionally, the pilots of EAA 839 will offer free Young Eagle flights to youth ages 8 to 17, weather permitting, with the required parental release forms.

The pancake breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, at the hangar, 222 Hickory Lane, Saylorsburg (turn off Rt. 209 at Millers Flower Shop by Kate). Complete information can be found on the chapter website: https://www.eaa839.com/events.

Fall fun day

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kresgeville is holding a Family and Youth Funday beginning at 11:30 a.m., Sunday.

The worship services are at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.

New members

The Western Pocono Women’s Club will celebrate New Member Night at Effort UMC on Monday with a potluck covered dish dinner, beginning at 6 p.m.

The club’s Refreshment Committee will provide desserts and beverages.

All other members are being asked to bring an appetizer, salad, veggie or meat dish of their choice.

How the club serves to benefit the community will be shared. The program will be a social night with a fun game.

Upcoming is the club’s involvement in the upcoming Trunk-aTreat event at the Chestnuthill Township park on Oct. 22, beginning at 11 a.m.

Bonnie Peters and Isabel Pietri will represent the club, but other members are being asked to help with Story Time, pumpkin painting, face painting and balloon animals, apple cider press demo, costume contest.

Club officers are Fern Smith, president; Vicki Connor, VP; Mary Minnucci, treasurer; Darlene Beers, secretary.

VALOR PTSD

The American Legion Post 927, Brodheadsville, hosts a VALOR supported PTSD support group meeting monthly. Such a meeting will take place at 7 p.m., Tuesday. The meeting is open to anyone. One need not be a Post 927 member to attend and guests are welcome.

Zion Lutheran is offering a free drive-through community supper next Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Eldred Supers

The Eldred Township board of supervisors is slated to meet at 7 p.m. at the municipal building in Kunkletown next Wednesday.

Sign-up time

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is accepting sign-ups for its Angel Tree and Toys for Tots program now.

The Angel Tree sign-ups will close Oct. 28. The Toys for Tots sign-ups will be held Nov. 1 through Nov. 30.

Angel Tree sign-ups will automatically be registered for the Toys for Tots program.

Hoagie orders

McMichaels UMC is holding a hoagie sale. One must order by Oct. 20 at 610-597-1030 and pick up is from 11 a.m. to noon at the church on Oct. 27.

The church is located on the corner of Rt. 715 and White Church Road in Chestnuthill Township.

Special guest

Children’s book author, Colter Jackson, will be at the Western Pocono Community Library at 6 p.m., Oct. 20, to do a special Story Time and talk about writing and illustrating children’s books.

Colter will be reading her book The Rhino Suit and will have copies available for purchase.
