Schuylkill teens seriously injured in Rt. 209 crash

Three teens were seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash Sunday at 10:36 p.m. on Route 209 in Porter Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks said two girls, ages 16 and 15, both from Ashland, and a 17-year-old girl from Frackville were involved in the crash.

They said the 16-year-old girl, who was the driver of the vehicle, was transported by personnel from the Community Life Team to the Hershey Medical Center, while the 15-year-old girl was taken by the Hegins Area Ambulance Association to the Hershey Medical Center and the 17-year-old girl was treated by personnel from the Minersville EMS corps and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-East, Pottsville.

Police said the crash occurred when the 2011 Ford Focus was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound. They said due to the speed and wet roadway, the operator lost control of the car and it left the right side of the road, striking a tree.

Police said the driver and passengers had to be extricated from the vehicle.
