Lehighton picks up boys, girls soccer wins

Lehighton picked up victories in boys and girls soccer action on Monday.

Elsewhere, Palmerton stunned powerful Wilson in field hockey, and Jim Thorpe continued to roll in volleyball.

BOYS SOCCER

Lehighton-Jim Thorpe

Mason Marchessault scored two goals, including the game-winner on a penalty kick, as Lehighton trimmed Jim Thorpe 3-2 in Schuylkill League action.

After a scoreless first half, AJ Light and Marchessault (BOTH) tallied to give the Indians a 2-0 advantage. Thorpe knotted the score as Ivan Turczaniuk and Dawson Meckes each registered goals.

That set the stage for Marchessault, whose penalty kick upped Lehighton’s record to 11-6 overall and 5-6 in the league. Keeper Bryce Miller also came through with eight saves.

Turczaniuk and Meckes assisted on each other’s goals for the Olympians, who fell to 8-9 and 6-6.

Tamaqua-Northern Lehigh

Tamaqua and Northern Lehigh battled to a 2-2 non-league tie.

Jacob Schlier had a goal and an assist for the Blue Raiders. His tally knotted the score and sent the contest into overtime, where neither team managed a goal.

Cooper Ansbach also scored for Tamaqua, while Jesse Gormley added an assist.

For the Bulldogs, Ethan Moore posted a goal. Nolehi’s other tally was the result of an own goal.

Bulldog keeper Ethan Kunkle made 13 saves, and Jonathan Ulicny made nine stops for the Raiders.

Tamaqua is now 5-11-1, while Northern Lehigh stands at 2-12-3.

Tri-Valley-Weatherly

Tri-Valley edged Weatherly 2-1 in a Schuylkill League contest.

Trent Higgins posted the only goal for the Wreckers, with Tanner Hinkle assisting.

Weatherly goalie Michael Davis recorded six saves.

The loss dropped the Wreckers to 1-14-1 overall, and 1-9-1 in the league.

GIRLS SOCCER

Marian-Lehighton

Eight different players scored as Lehighton rolled to a 9-0 non-league victory over visiting Marian.

Charli McHugh led the Indians with two goals, while Ryleigh Walker, Emma Repher, Carissa Moyer, Madalyn Wolter, Leah Uyvari, Miley Lutsko and Lilly Caruso also tallied for the winners.

Fillies keeper Maddison Kattner finished with 21 saves.

Lehighton improved to 10-7 overall, while Marian fell to 0-15.

FIELD HOCKEY

Wilson-Palmerton

Kira Hauser’s goal with 13:27 left in the third period lifted Palmerton to a 1-0 Colonial League upset of previously unbeaten Wilson.

The Bombers’ Sydney Frantz had the assist on the goal, which handed the Warriors (14-1-1 overall; 11-1-1 CL) their first loss of the season.

Emily Bollinger made 10 saves to record the shutout in goal for the Bombers (9-6 overall, 8-5 league).

No. Lehigh-Saucon Vy.

Katyrna Price’s hat-trick helped Saucon Valley cruise to an 8-3 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Sophie Engelhardt added two goals for the Panthers (6-8-1 overall; 4-8-1 CL).

Addison Cieri, Delaney Szwast and Ariana Williams all scored for the Bulldogs (0-17; 0-14), while Sarah Hanzarik recorded an assist.

VOLLEYBALL

Northwestern-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe posted a 25-19, 19-25, 25-18, 25-20 non-league win over Northwestern.

Brooke Mitzen was a force for the Olympians as she compiled 17 kills, 17 digs and four aces. Brianna Snisky (nine kills, seven blocks); Maggy Hallihan (33 assists, 21 digs, 15 service points); Olivia Calacano (25 digs); Maura Malaska (15 service points); Kelsey Patton (four kills, four blocks) and Leah Figura (three kills, 15 digs) also contributed to the victory.

Jim Thorpe moves to 14-2 on the season, while Northwestern falls to 12-5.

Stroudsburg-Palmerton

Stroudsburg outlasted Palmerton in a non-league match, 19-25, 25-15, 25-23, 22-25, 15-8.

Alysa Roe finished with 10 assists and nine digs to lead the Bombers, while Caylee Strohl (10 digs, four aces); Emily Christopher (four blocks, three kills) and Claire Thomas (four kills, three aces) also played well.

Palmerton slides to 2-14 overall, while Stroudsburg moves to 6-12.

Sch. Haven-Tamaqua

Schuylkill Haven swept Tamaqua 25-19, 25-23, 25-7 in a non-league matchup.

Sami Letkowski had two aces and a kill for the Blue Raiders, while Eileen Lusch added a kill, a dig and an ace.

The loss dropped Tamaqua to 1-19 overall.
