Bird seed

Monroe County Conservation District’s Environmental Education Center has scheduled its truckload wild bird seed sale for Oct. 22.

The ordering deadline is Oct.13.

One can obtain a complete order form by calling the center at 570-629-3061, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. One may also download the order form from the website: www.mcconservation.org.

In addition, the gift shop sells bird seed along with a wide variety of feeders and field guides year-round.

Youth sleep-out

St. Matthew’s is hosting the annual Youth Sleep-out for Homelessness on Oct. 15 and 16 in the church grove.

The event is for 7th through 12th graders; they will sleep outside in a large box (or their own tent) during an overnight homeless simulation.

Youth will get the chance to meet other youth from sister churches in the conference and engage in activities that are fun but provide valuable lessons on homelessness.

The event starts at 7 p.m. and participants should eat dinner beforehand. The happening will end with a simple breakfast on Sunday morning as youth need to be picked up by 7 a.m.

Participants are asked to raise $25 that will support the Lehigh County Conference of Church’s work with the homeless.

Medicare questions

From the Monroe County Pocono Seniors Express Times comes a resource for anyone having questions about Medicare.

One can call the PA MEDI Helpline from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 1-800-783-7060.

The open enrollment runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7.
