Lehighton keeps the lights on at open house

Lehighton’s Light & Power Department observed Public Power Week with an open house.

The event was Wednesday at the borough’s Light & Power Department.

Lonny Armbruster, superintendent of the borough’s Light and Power Department, led visitors on a tour of the department.

Catherine Schleicher, of Lehighton, said she was glad she went.

“It was very interesting,” Schleicher said. “I learned things I didn’t know.”

Armburster said he was pleased to see the guests in attendance.

“Public power is community-based,” Armbruster said. “I’m glad the public comes out and shows interest.”

Refreshments were served.

The borough is one of more than 2,000 public power systems across the country.

Established by the American Public Power Association and its members in 1986, Public Power Week celebrates the importance of public power.

Borough residents who have any questions regarding their local electric utility can contact the billing office at 610-377-4004.
