Ross Historical

The Ross Township has announced the Grand Opening of the Ross Township Historical Museum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 1. The ribbon-cutting will be at noon and light refreshments will be served.

The museum is located at the former township municipal building at 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg. All are welcome.

Flea market

The Women’s Group of Effort will be holding its annual flea market on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church pavilion.

For space rental contact Joyce Aylsworth at 570-643-3334 as soon as possible. Lunch and bake sale items will be available for purchase.

Two events

There are two events happening at Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, on Saturday.

At 9 a.m. it is the Brotherhood Breakfast for church affiliated folks.

From 2 to 5 p.m., it is the Fall Festival which is open to the community.

WE Food Pantry

The West End Food Pantry, Eldred Township, will have a distribution from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday.

Blood drive

The Monroe County Conservation District is hosting another blood drive on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call Barbara at MCCD at 570-629-3060 for more information.

Pet blessings

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold its Pet Blessing service at 10 a.m., Saturday, with Father Simon at the St. Francis statue on the office side of the church. Confirmation students in eighth grade will be on hand to offer treats, prayers, and a special gift for those pets.

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting its Blessing of the Pets event at 1 p.m., Sunday, in front of the parish hall (inside if it rains.) All animals and pets are welcome but must be appropriately caged or leashed.

Bike Night

The American Legion Riders, Chapter 927, is hosting an open bike night from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday, at the Legion Post 927 in Gilbert. All bikes are welcome. It is the last one for the season.

Food and beverages will be for sale and a Best Bike contest is to be a part of the event.

Benefit concert

A benefit concert for musician James Hummel will be held Saturday at the Sherman Theatre in Stroudsburg. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Featured will be Joey& the T-Birds and Lorri Kulp Woodward of the Lorri and James Duet.

Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is holding a block shoot & meat raffle Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m. 12-gauge shotguns only.

Confirmation classes

Effort UMC is offering Confirmation classes for the youth being interested in being confirmed in their faith next May. Classes will begin on Sunday.

They will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on the first and third Sunday afternoons of each month in Wesley Hall.

NFL Sunday

American Legion West End Home Association, Post 927, Gilbert, is hosting its NFL Sunday football event for members from 1 to 4 p.m.

Post 927 WEHA members are invited to Tuesday night’s Home Association meeting at 6:30 p.m. And in between, on Monday it’s Monday Night Football, beginning at 6 p.m.

PV Kindergarten

Families in the Pleasant Valley School District with children turning 5 by Sept. 1. 2023, can preregister their child, children, by calling Vickie in Central Registration at 570-402-1000, Ext. 8010.

Fall Fest/Jam

The West End Food Pantry will host a Community Fall Fest/Jam from 1 to 3 p.m., rain or shine, Oct. 9.

Bring a chair is the reminder, to enjoy the music by local legends RJ & Randy Cramer and friends.

It is being held at The Grove on Grove Rd. in Kunkletown. There will be free pumpkins, hot dogs and cider while supplies last.

Monday deadline

A ham takeout dinner is being held by Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Kresgeville on Oct. 15.

The deadline for ordering is Monday.

The dinner includes ham, filling with gravy, carrots, applesauce, roll and choice of molasses or pineapple upside-down cake.

Orders may be placed by calling 570-688-5381.

Checks or money orders should be made out to Salem-St. Paul’s Church and sent to the church c/o Linda Serfass by Oct. 3 at P.O. Box 168, Kresgeville, 18333.

Pickup is at the church on Oct. 15 between 4 and 5:30 p.m.

The church is also taking orders for celery seed dressing, either quart or pints.

Volunteer training

The Lehigh Valley Hospice-Pocono in East Stroudsburg is currently taking applications for its next Hospice Volunteer Training program. Anyone who would like to make a difference in someone’s life, may find this volunteer opportunity amazing.

Art opening set

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced the art opening of Terry Kloiber’s Amalgrams of Nature for Oct. 1.

One can meet her at the opening from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day.

She carves and burns gourds, creates jewelry, paints and works in various fiber arts. Twenty percent of the art sales are donated to the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center.

Holy Communion

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will offer Holy Communion at its 10 a.m. worship service Sunday to all believers in Christ.

Park movie set

Hocus Pocus, a movie, will be shown in the West End Park in Brodheadsville from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m., Oct. 8.
