Council agrees to have Spadt Alley partially paved

Walnutport has agreed to have Spadt Alley partially paved from Lincoln Avenue to Williams Avenue to accommodate a new housing development.

Borough council took the action on a 6-0 vote following a public hearing on Thursday. Councilman Harold Greene was absent.

Fewer than a handful of residents attended the hearing.

Resident David Doremus said he lives with his fiancee at 240 Main St.

Doremus said the current configuration makes access difficult.

“I love this town,” Doremus said. “I think it’s beautiful.”

Doremus noted that traffic along Main Street is a real issue.

“People fly up and down Main Street constantly,” he said. “Something needs to be done with the way traffic comes down Main Street.”

Borough solicitor Michael Corriere said the portion that’s gravel is what will be paved and physically opened, with the borough maintaining it.

Corriere said the remainder of Spadt Alley will be a paper alley and remain unopened.

Additionally, council agreed to have borough engineer Jason Newhard do a further study on Williams Avenue.
