Pleasant Valley High School entrance is nearly finished
Although the roundabout in front of the Pleasant Valley High School is not near completion, the entrance to the school is.
William Gasper, the director of operations, told members of the school board Monday night during their district meeting that the entrance should be completed in time for the beginning of the school year.
Gasper said the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is grading and prepping for the macadam this week, then will begin placing the macadam. The final layer should be put down next week. School flasher lights also need to be installed on Route 209.
Gasper said there were some fixes that have delayed the completion of the entrance.
“They weren’t able to turn the buses, so they had to tear the curbs out,” he said. This required PennDOT to cut back in a little further on the school property to restructure it.
Gasper said there were also some problems with getting buses out other entrances, but it has been fixed. The fixes put the project behind about a week.
“Their plan is to have all of the entrances open for the first day of school,” he said.
School board President Susan Kresge asked if the fixes took more land from the school district. Gasper said the fix where the roundabout is going in did take a little bit of land, but the other fixes actually gave back to the school district about six parking spots.
As far as traffic patterns, Gasper said he anticipates it will be the same as last year.
The school buses will use the roundabout in front of the high school, but students driving themselves to school will use the entrance to the high school from Route 115. Similarly, parents dropping off their children will use the Route 115 entrance.
The entire construction project includes a roundabout at the intersection of routes 209 and 115 and widening of Route 115.
Gasper said the project is still on track to be completed in 2024.
