12th Annual Rockin’ Rescue set for three-day run

A three-day event to raise funds for abused and neglected animals is on tap in Weissport.

The 12th Annual Rockin Rescue event will be held Friday through Sunday in the borough park.

It kicks off from 4-10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The event is sponsored by the Blue Mountain Animal Rescue Society & Carbon County Animal Cruelty Fund.

Donna Becker-Crum, founder of Rockin’ Rescue, encouraged visitors to bring a donation of cat food.

“We have an overpopulation in Carbon; there’s no room,” Crum said. “We need the community effort to make a difference.”

Crum said this year’s theme is “CAT” Astropy & Canine Chaos.

Entertainment will consist of a DJ on Friday, classic rock music entertainment on Saturday, and the Pennsylvania Villagers Polka on Sunday. The Bees Knees, DJ Tony & His Sidekick, and Bugsy’s Evolution will perform.

There will also be a car show hosted by the Palmerton Pace-Makers from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. There is a $5 per car entry fee, along with prices and dash plaque.

A rabies clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Preregistration is recommended but not required. Costs are $15 for rabies, $20 for distemper, $20 for feline distemper. All dogs must be on a leash and cats in a carrier.

Crum said Saturday is also registration for the annual “The Queen or King” contest. There will be awards for first, second and third place, she said.

“During COVID, vets were closed for a year,” she said. “We’re trying to do something better for Carbon on the whole.”

Crum said the crowning of the Trap-Neuter-Return Queen or King will be held in October at a date and location to be determined.

Over the course of the event, there will also be plenty of foods to choose from, such as Sis’s BBQ (breakfast, steak, sausage and peppers, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, sandwiches and more), Parryville Fire Company (funnel cakes, fried Oreos, ice cream, tacos, bake sale, Ott’s Concessions), Phil’s French fries, chicken fingers, pierogies); and Lehighton Lioness hot dogs.

There will also be animal rescues and shelters on hand with information for the betterment of animals. All 501c3 animals rescues are set up free or charge for adoptions, education and rescue.

Other activities include resources/information on low cost spray neuter; crafters; small businesses; flea market AND yard sale space available $15 daily, $20 all three days; a 50/50 raffle every band set; vendor spots available, rescues, yard sales, crafters and direct selling spaces available first-come, first-serve - no duplicates.
