Monroe County plans sale of abandoned, confiscated guns

The Monroe County Commissioners have authorized Chief Clerk Greg Christine to advertise a notice of sheriff’s sale of abandoned or confiscated guns. The guns will only be sold to people who have a federal license to sell guns.

“I would like to commend Sheriff (Ken) Morris because some of the guns have been hanging around for probably 20 years and it was a job to gather them all up,” Commissioner John Moyer said.

He said the weapons were not used in the commission of a crime, but were taken away from anyone who had a protection order filed against them.

Meeting change

Commissioners’ Chairman Sharon Laverdure announced a change for the commissioners’ first Wednesday of the month meeting time.

“When we changed the first Commissioners meeting of the month to 6 p.m. we did so because we thought it might be easier for people who work or commute, but the response was just not there,” she said.

The commissioners talked it over and decided to go back to the 9:30 a.m. meeting time, on the first Wednesday of the month, like it previously was.
