State police at Frackville - crashes

State police at Frackville reported on crashes investigated by troopers:

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 3:01 p.m. on June 2 along Route 209 in Blythe Township.

Troopers said a 17-year-old girl from St. Clair was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier westbound while a 2019 Ford Econoline van, a FedEx, driven by Laura A. Schultz, 26, of Minersville, was parked along the northbound shoulder of the road with its hazard lights on.

The teen told troopers she crested a small hill and saw the van. She applied her brakes and tried to swerve, but could not stop in time due to wet road conditions. The Cavalier struck the van. No one was injured.

The Cumbola and Blythe Township fire companies assisted at the scene.

Troopers cited the teen for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

• A hit-and-run crash occurred on May 30 at 11:02 p.m. along Interstate 81 in New Castle Township.

Troopers said Amin Santiago, 29, of Shenandoah, was driving a 2016 Hyundai Elantra when a new model white pickup attempted to pass him. The passenger side of the pickup hit the driver’s side of the Elantra three times. The pickup driver then fled the scene.

Santiago was not injured.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported on May 25 at 4:05 p.m. along Route 443 in East Brunswick Township.

Troopers said a 17-year-old male from Orwigsburg was driving a 2014 Ford Transit van eastbound and said he looked down to change the radio and took his eyes off the road. The van went onto the berm, traveled through a yard and struck a retaining wall with the undercarriage.

After impact, the van went airborne and traveled about 90 feet through a driveway and grass area of a residence before coming to rest facing east in a yard.

The teen driver was not injured. He was cited for the crash.
