Nesquehoning appoints new council member

A local volunteer has joined Nesquehoning Borough Council.

On Wednesday, council members voted to appoint Lois Corby Kuba to fill the vacant council seat, which was created with the resignation of Councilman Michael Radocha last month.

Kuba was one of three women who expressed interest in filling the vacant seat. The other two were Rose Chapello and Suzanne Smith.

Following the vote, Mayor Tom Kattner swore Kuba in and she took her seat.

“Lois is a very busy woman,” Councilwoman Mary Fox said, noting that Kuba is a community volunteer active with Meed’s United Methodist Church, and is president of the Nesquehoning Historical Society.

In other appointment matters, council appointed John McArdle to fill the vacancy on the borough water authority that was open due to the death of Richard “Denny” Creitz.
