Summit Hill eyes summer road paving
Borough workers in Summit Hill are obviously thinking warmer weather.
They recently moved their plows to the back of the borough building in hopes they won’t be needed any more this year.
On Tuesday, they presented a list to Summit Hill Borough Council - which was approved - of streets to be paved and stormwater inlet covers to be replaced.
Paving is anticipated on eight streets. On seven of them, liquid fuels funds will be used.
They are:
• Mill Street from Poplar to Walnut Street.
• Market Street from Ludlow to Holland Street.
• Oak Street from Amidon to Holland Street.
• West Mountaintop Road in various areas.
• Oak Street from McMurtrie to Ludlow Street.
• Walnut Street from School to Fell Street.
• Chestnut Street from Holland to Amidon Street.
• Ridge Street from Pine to Spruce Street.
Ridge Street does not qualify for paving using state Liquid Fuels funds, the council said.
There are five stormwater inlets that will be replaced this year.
They are:
• Oak and Amidon (northeast).
• Oak and Holland (northwest).
• Oak and Holland (northeast).
• Oak and Fell (northeast).
• Elm and Ludlow (northeast).
In other business regarding borough maintenance, the council agreed to have the gazebo in Ludlow Park pressure washed so members of the Recreation Commission can paint it.
Kathy Gieniec, chairman of the Recreation Commission, said it is anticipated the gazebo will be painted by Memorial Day.
In another item related to the Recreation Commission, borough council member Karen Ruzicka said the group will host yoga lessons in the Community Center beginning May 4 on each Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m.
Council member David Wargo said there are still vacancies on the Recreation Commission and anyone interested in serving should apply in the borough office.
