Tamaqua police charge Phila. felon with gun violations

Tamaqua police have charged a Philadelphia man with gun violations and receiving stolen property.

Police said on Feb. 17 they were dispatched to Fegley’s Mini Mart on Center Street for a report of a disturbance involving two men. The suspects left in a white pickup.

Police said while en route to the scene they saw the truck leaving Boyer’s Market lot on Cedar Street. A vehicle stop was made of the vehicle with the driver and two passengers. Richard C. Rodweller, 46, of Harrison Street, Philadelphia, was one of the passengers.

All the occupants were removed from the vehicle and a consent search was conducted.

A black Ruger 380 gun in a holster was found in the glove box.

Rodweller admitted the gun was his, which he said he had purchased three weeks prior, but figured it was stolen because he had not bill of sale.

He also admitted he was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to prior criminal convictions.

Police said there was one live bullet in the chamber and a magazine in the pistol was full with six additional rounds. There was also a magazine in the holster containing three live rounds.

Rodweller was arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer, of Tamaqua, and committed to the county prison failing to post $50,000 straight cash bail. Court records indicate he has since been released on bond.
