Caring Hearts Clothing Closet & More opens in Slatington

It’s a place where there’s no price tags, let alone a cash register.

Welcome to Caring Hearts Clothing Closet & More in Slatington, where everything available is for free to anyone in need.

To help usher in its opening, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday night at 7935 Route 873.

The event had a fantastic turnout, according to Denise “Neice Eie” Martinez, founder/CEO/President of Caring Hearts.

“It was awesome,” Martinez said. “We had about 100 people.”

Caring Hearts is a local 501c3 charity that’s dedicated to serving the homeless, veterans and the less fortunate throughout the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas.

Martinez said Caring Hearts has 25 employees, and described it as having a “quaint, homey, cozy atmosphere.”

“People say it’s like a little boutique,” she said. “That it has a very warm feeling where we treat them with kindness, dignity and respect.”

Inside, customers can find clothing for men, women, children and infants, hygiene products, household items and more.

“We accept donations of all of those items by appointment only,” she said. “We run off fundraisers and voluntary donations.”

Martinez said there are 25 employees, and is proud of her new digs.

“I was working out of a garage for five years, so last year I started searching for a place in my hometown of Slatington,” she said. “I pulled in and said I need somewhere people can come in and pick up their items.”

Martinez said her new location fits her needs.

“I had this vision in my head; I always dreamed of my own boutique,” she said. “I love it; this is my passion.”

Martinez said current hours are 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, and noon to 4 Thursday and Friday.

She said hours will be posted on Facebook on Sundays for the following week.
