Man charged after lying to police that he was robbed of firearms

A Lehigh County man has been charged after he lied to police that he was robbed of guns, which he later said he bought and sold to others.

According to the affidavit of probable cause in the case against Melvin Serrano:

At 4:42 p.m. Oct. 24, members of the Allentown Police Department responded to a call of male waving around a gun.

Patrol officers were able to take a juvenile male into custody, along with a Taurus GC3, 9 mm pistol, which was registered to Serrano, 22, of Allentown.

That night police were called to Serrano’s residence for an armed robbery report. Serrano reported being robbed at knife point of two pistols in a backpack sometime between 9:30-9:45 p.m.

Initially, Serrano reported that the two guns were a Taurus G2C, and a Taurus C3C. Police said they had recovered one.

On Oct. 25, Serrano contacted police to make a correction as to which guns were stolen.

Serrano said later he was walking to his friend’s house when he was approached by an unknown man with a knife, wearing a ski mask, at which time he was robbed of his book bag.

He later said there was no robbery, and that he bought the firearms for other people.

In December, he admitted buying the gun at A.F. Boyer in Slatington for another man. He also bought two other guns there and sold them for $300.

During both transactions, Serrano lied when he filled out forms.

Serrano faces charges on three counts of sale or transfer of firearms; and one count of unsworn falsification to authorities.

He is currently free in lieu of $25,000 unsecured bail.
