Half a century of horsepower
An area business that focuses on agriculture and construction, along with homeowners’ needs, is marking a 50th anniversary.
AG-Industrial Inc., 767 Penn Drive, West Penn Township, opened in 2014, and is one of the half-century-old business’s four facilities in the mid-Atlantic region.
“We focus on agriculture and construction equipment here as well as homeowner equipment lines such as Toro (mowers) and STIHL (garden equipment),” according to AG-Industrial spokeswoman Amber Hudler.
Those traveling along Route 443 between Tamaqua and Lehighton will likely spot farming and other equipment parked outside the business. The business often displays agricultural tractors, compact trailers, harvest equipment, skid steer loaders, haying equipment and lawn mowers.
And inside, people will find more merchandise such as chain saws, string trimmers, push mowers, leaf blowers, hedge clippers to keep their lawns and yards in shape. AG Industrial carries attachments for both large and small tractors as well. Collectibles — and even toy equipment — are part of the offerings, too.
If you’re not sure what exactly you need, employees can help.
“All of our departments are very knowledgeable in their departments. Our service team has trained and certified technicians that can handle any type of equipment,” Hudler said.
Since AG-Industrial salesman have years of experience, Hudler said, they can help customers determine what best fits their needs.
“Our parts staff go through hours of training to handle all the parts questions there might be,” Hudler noted.
AG-Industrial specializes in New Holland parts but can help with parts for Pequea, Grasshopper, Stihl, Toro, Grouser and more. They also have a large selection of auger teeth, bucket teeth and over-the-tire track parts.
If AG-Industrial doesn’t have the parts in the store, they can be ordered, she said.
In addition, it has a service department capable of on-site service, house repairs and routine checkups.
The store in West Penn is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
AG-Industrial was founded in 1976 in Rising Sun, Maryland, by Edgar Greenleaf and offered products from Allis Chalmers, New Holland and New Idea.
In the early 1990s, the business expanded its offerings with the acquisition of the Ford Tractor line following its merger with New Holland.
In 2005, Terry Greenleaf took over ownership from his father. Five years later, the business expanded into Pennsylvania with the acquisition of ABC Groff Inc. in New Holland.
And in September 2014, AG-Industrial acquired the site in West Penn, which formerly housed Charles S. Snyder.
A fourth location opened in Dover, Delaware, in 2019.
“As AG-Industrial celebrates 50 years in business, the milestone reflects a legacy built on resilience, leadership and service. From its beginnings as a single-location dealership to a respected four-location operation spanning three states, AG-Industrial’s success is rooted in strong family leadership, trusted relationships and a continued commitment to supporting the agricultural community, now and for generations to come,” the company noted.
