Rush Township parks to get upgrades this year

Following the reorganizational meeting on Jan. 3, Rush Township Supervisors held their January general meeting.

A motion was approved to adopt Resolution 2022-08, appointing an auditor to settle and adjust Rush Township and the Hometown Fire Company accounts for the fiscal year 2021.

A motion was approved acknowledging an executive session was held Dec. 16 regarding a property at 124 Mahanoy Ave.

A motion was then passed awarding a demolition contract for the same property to Daniel Farber in the amount of $10,900 upon being vacated by the tenants.

“Christmas trees will be picked up on Friday, Jan. 14,” Chairman Shawn Gilbert reminded township residents. Anyone with Christmas trees to dispose of should have all ornaments and other decorations removed and have the trees by the curb the night before.

Township Vice Chairman Robert Leibensperger also mentioned they received a Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Community Parks and Recreation grant in the amount of $76,800 for the Ryan Memorial Park.

“We will be resurfacing the tennis court area and adding basketball nets and higher fences,” Leibensperger said.

“The work will include painting the lines, and handicapped parking will be added, along with a path for handicapped to access the facilities.”

Miller Park will also be getting a new pavilion thanks to another DCNR grant, and Grier City Park will get a new pavilion and new playground equipment.
