Man sentenced for drug paraphernalia, tire violation

A Tamaqua man was sentenced for drug paraphernalia and a tire violation In Schuylkill County Court Wednesday.

Common Pleas Judge Charles Miller sentenced James Gilson, 26, to time served in the Schuylkill County Prison to 12 months but granted him immediate parole. He credited him with serving from Oct. 18 to Wednesday. He must pay costs of prosecution and $100 to the substance abuse fund on the drug charge. Gilson must pay a summary fine of $25 on the tire charge and other applicable costs. A count of texting while driving was withdrawn.

Tamaqua Police were sent to 501 E. Broad St. in the borough July 24 for a vehicle crash. Upon arrival, they found Gilson with a head injury. Police spoke with Gilson, who said he was distracted while on the phone and hit the driver of a white utility truck, which had serious damage to the driver’s side.

Gilson told police he had needles in the car. Police were permitted to search the car and found a hypodermic needle and a broken methamphetamine pipe with burnt residue. Another officer spoke with the owner of the truck.
