Broken water line in Slatington fixed

Water is running again after a water line was broken accidentally on Nov. 4 by construction crews in Slatington.

Borough manager Dan Stevens told the council Monday night during their regular meeting that a boil water advisory went out to several media sources and word spread quickly.

“The public was very cooperative,” he said. The boil water advisory was lifted on Monday.

The line was broken on Church Street where a stormwater project was being worked on by Wyoming Signal and Electric. About 37,000 gallons of water were lost in the break, Stevens said. The council opted to discuss their options for recouping the cost of the water line break in executive session.

The council also discussed another project on Church Street. With the completion of the work, it was time to pay Bruce George Paving and Excavating in Kunkletown. The council approved paying the $89,842.50 owed to the company.

Borough engineer David Lear, a senior project manager for Lehigh Engineering, said the project came in under budget because they did not need as much subbase material as they had projected for the project.

“I want to note that they did an excellent job,” Stevens said.

“They sure did,” said council member David Schnaars.
