Nesquehoning man brings smiles to Halloween lovers through display

If you are looking for things that go bump in the night, a home in Nesquehoning is hoping to bring a smile to your face.

Alan Kloss of Seventh Avenue in the Hauto Valley Estates portion of the borough has set up a full display that includes 20-foot blow-up decorations, 12-foot skeletons, a slew of animatronics and even a hearse and casket.

“I want to be able to make people happy,” he said, explaining his reasoning for turning the front yard of the home into a Halloween lover’s paradise. “There really isn’t a whole lot of anything here for the kids so when we first moved here, we decided to bring some life to the area.”

Kloss said his inspiration was from a home in Easton that would be decorated with just inflatables.

“We have kids and I was like, instead of driving an hour, why not make it ourselves.”

Kloss has collected the decorations over the season and is constantly thinking of ways to enhance his display, from adding Pennywise from “It”; Jack Skellington and crew from “The Nightmare Before Christmas”; a dark angel; the Grim Reaper and more.

He said that the display has been received well by visitors of all ages who drive by when the display is up on weekends. Some people have even shared their stories on the way displays like this have helped them find comfort.

The display is currently up from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends, weather permitting, and will remain until Halloween, when Kloss plans to give out candy to trick-or-treaters.

After that, the display will come down and Kloss will prep the property for his next display - Christmas.

“It will be big,” he said.

Kloss said that anyone who would like to visit the display can do so on weekends, but asks that they remain on the street. Taking photos is also welcome.

If you can’t visit the display or have friends and family out of the area who would like to see it, Kloss also has a YouTube channel called Revenge of the Apocalypse that showcases his displays.
