Palmerton parade kicks off 30th year

The 30th annual Palmerton Halloween Parade will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday. The rain date is 7 p.m. Monday.

Sponsored by the Palmerton Area Chamber of Commerce, the parade will form at around 2:30 p.m. at the Seventh Street and Franklin Avenue area.

From there, it will proceed up Seventh Street to Lafayette Avenue, where it will turn down Lafayette Avenue to Second Street. It will then make a left on Second Street to Franklin Avenue, where it will turn left onto Delaware Avenue, and return to Seventh Street, where it will disband.

Parade chairperson Susie Arner noted that participants must check in at Seventh Street and Delaware Avenue on the day of the parade.

“It is a bit smaller than years past due to some groups having lack of volunteers; sadly a sentiment we hear from so many groups,” Arner said. “We are pleased to have some awesome entries from Girl Scouts being scary to cheerleaders showing their Bomber spirit.”

Arner said making their return appearance are the Booster Club entries, which are always “energetic, colorful, exciting floats loved by many.”

She said the Palmerton High School Marching Band will join them under the direction of new band leader Malia Mueller.

Arner added lots and lots of candy will be handed out to attendees, and it’s important to note the candy will be hand-tossed at the curb so everyone should remain at the curb.

She offered a special reminder to everyone on the parade route to move their vehicles off the route before 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Traffic will be rerouted at Third and Delaware to Lehigh Avenue; then traffic can access Delaware at Seventh Street. Streets will be reopened as soon as possible at the conclusion of the parade.

Arner noted that the Christian Action Council of Palmerton Area Churches will be collecting nonperishable food donations along the parade route to be donated to Palmerton food pantry.

“If anyone forgets their food donation, Country Harvest will be having a cart with the CACPAC sign on it until Oct. 31 where they can leave them,” she said. “We will have some firemen walking around the parade collecting donations to help offset the cost of the parade; any remaining funds will be toward next year’s parade.”

Arner lauded all those who help make the parade the success that it is each year.

“Special thanks to Palmerton Borough for allowing the parade, and the Palmerton Chamber of Commerce for their support,” she said. “Also thanks to our sponsors who have made donations to assure a parade would happen; it’s sure to be a fun time.”

Arner said late entries and additional sponsors may call 484-522-8899.
