Tamaqua Athletic Director Mike Hromyak announced on Thursday that the Blue Raiders’ varsity football home game with Notre Dame of Green Pond scheduled for Friday has been canceled.

Hromyak noted that he is “actively searching for a replacement” for the contest.

According to a statement released by Notre Dame Green Pond Athletic Director Amy Rogers, the game “will not be played due to COVID-related quarantines in the Notre Dame football program. Football practices are expected to resume early next week.

“The school remains open as normal. The school has notified the Pennsylvania Department of Health.”

The JV football game against the Crusaders scheduled for Saturday has also been canceled. However, the junior high football game against NDGP is on as scheduled for 11 a.m.

Tamaqua will now play a JV contest against Northwestern on Monday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m.
