West Penn Township roadmaster resigns

The board of supervisors accepted a resignation letter from its roadmaster at Monday morning’s meeting.

“I want to thank you for the past three years and ability to work in the township that I live in,” said roadmaster Clint Schock in a letter to the supervisors.

“I enjoyed the time I worked here, and I have learned many new things.”

Schock’s resignation is effective Oct. 1. Board Chairman Tony Prudenti said Jeremy Frable will temporarily be in charge of the road crew.

“It’s going to be a great loss the township. He’s a great guy,” Prudenti added.

Schock was not present at the meeting.

Recycling

During the public comment portion of the meeting, a township resident commented about the township’s recycling program, saying that site was closed multiple days last week. The recycling bin was full.

Prudenti said the board recently discussed some of the recycling issues.

“First of all, it’s the perfect storm. COVID - no drivers, no help. … The other thing is, we already have about $20,000 invested in this recycling,” Prudenti said.

“Whether it’s a bin for $8,000 or the cement or fencing that we did. … You’re right, it’s a financial issue and how far do we go? County stopped the program and we picked it up because of the residents. Out of our roughly 4,400 residents, so far, we’ve sold 88 tags for that.”

Prudenti said he doesn’t expect another recycling bin this season, but it’s not out of the question for 2022.

“We know it’s a concern and we also know it’s a perfect storm out there. We are going to try to take care of it.”

Break-in reported

During the public comment part of the meeting, another resident reported a break-in around the 300 block of Mush Dahl Road. An old forklift was allegedly stolen from the property sometime last week.

James Bonner, West Penn officer in charge, encouraged the landowner to file a report for the township to investigate.
