Schuylkill accepts two grant agreements

Schuylkill County commissioners accepted two grant agreements recently.

Commissioners approved the Radiation Emergency Response Fund Grant agreement and the Hazardous Material Response Fund Grant Agreement. The first is for $13,051 and is used in the development of improved emergency response capabilities in responding to recovering from radiological accidents or incidents at the state’s nuclear power plants and exercises needed to measure the responses. The second is for $26,501 and provides money to counties to develop an integrated emergency response capability for hazards such as health-related ones, dangers and risks associated with hazardous materials in the general public.

The grants are provided on a yearly basis.

In other business, commissioners Wednesday approved the advertising of bids for a Community Development Block Grant project in Shenandoah. Bids are due by Tuesday to be awarded at a later date.

Several budget adjustments were made. Finance Director Paul Buber said the amounts were not increasing overall spending but transferring budgetary authority.

The following amounts were noted: controller’s office $950, and two amounts for 911 communications, $2,500 and $17,000.
