Carbon Co. prison encourages inmates to get vaccinated

Carbon County prison officials are currently working to vaccinate inmates who would like to be protected against the coronavirus.

On Monday night, acting Warden Laura Banta said that the facility is currently working on its second round of vaccinations using the Moderna vaccine.

During the first round a total of 58 inmates receive their first dose, while 48 received their second dose.

Banta noted that some inmates had been released prior to receiving their second dose at the prison and were able to receive a second dose in the community.

Another seven inmates received their first dose during the second round of vaccinations, with four inmates receiving their second dose today.

“We do encourage such upon their arrival, and again right before the Department of Health comes in,” she said. “At this time, we have established a 30-day schedule, to permit the appropriate time frame between doses.”

The Carbon County Correctional Facility is using an incentive program to encourage inmates to get the vaccine.

Banta said that those who volunteer are receiving incentive meals, which are funded through the prison’s Commissary Account.
