Cornhole fundraising event helps Radocha Family

Coal Cracker Cornhole teamed up with members of the community to host a fun event while raising money for a local lymphoma patient.

Lyle Mantz, childhood friend of Stephanie Radocha Boby and volunteer at the Coaldale Fire Company, came up with the idea for the fundraiser and reached out to Justin Kern, founder of Coal Cracker Cornhole.

As a fan and participant of the sport himself, Mantz thought it would be a fun way to raise money to help Boby.

Kern, Mantz, and the rest of the fire company was able to come together to advertise the plan on Facebook and within the cornhole community and plan the event together.

“The whole Radocha family helps out in the community and they always help out the fire company,” Mantz said. “I figured this was a chance to give back.”

On Saturday, the Coaldale Fire Company gave the tournament fundraiser a place to happen while also providing a place for people to refresh and purchase food. The food and drinks purchased at the fundraiser helped keep event costs down and allow more profit to go directly to Boby and her family.

Teri Polischak of Coaldale helped out in the kitchen on the day of the event and says people also donated items to go directly to the family.

“People even brought food fresh from their gardens,” Polischak said.

When originally presented with the idea, Kern was completely in support of it. He says local cornhole teams tend to participate in fundraising events, and Mantz said the same of cornhole communities.

“Cornhole strikes me similar to wrestling communities - everyone wants to win but we all cheer each other on and we are friends,” Kern said.

A post was made on the Coal Cracker Cornhole Facebook page after the event, thanking those who participated with a special thanks to the winning team of Jack Leese and Nelson Coble from Scranton for donating all of their winnings back to the fundraiser.

Tony Radocha says he is glad for everyone who came together to support his sister over the weekend before she goes in for her last round of chemotherapy today.
