Two juveniles charged in Stroudsburg school incident

Two 14-year-old boys are being charged in connection the threat that caused a lockdown at Stroudsburg Area High School Tuesday.

Stroud Area Regional Police said two items resembling firearms were located; one being a BB/pellet gun and the other was a toy gun.

The teen who had the toy gun was charged with one count of terroristic threats, a felony; possession of instruments of crime and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors.

The teen with the BB gun is charged with possession of a weapon on school property.

At 8:40 a.m., the school resource officer at Stroudsburg Area School District was notified that the district received an anonymous tip in reference to a possible threat with a firearm at Stroudsburg High School. As a precaution, the school was put on lockdown in order to keep the students safe in the classrooms so officers could investigate the tip.

At 8:49 a.m., the Monroe County Control Center received a call that there was an active shooter at Stroudsburg High School. The call was received from a parent, whose child had texted the parent from inside the school. MCCC initiated active shooter protocols and officers from numerous agencies responded to the high school. They searched and secured the school. There was no active shooter.

Stroud Area Regional Police are actively investigating the anonymous tip and are still on scene at the high school. The students and staff at the school and the community are not believed to be in danger at this time.
