Annual speakers series to be held in Kibler School Museum

An annual community speakers series is set to begin this month at the Kibler School Museum in Towamensing Township.

The Kibler One-Room School Committee has announced the “Three Thursdays in July” community speakers series will take place at 7 p.m. July 15, July 22 and July 29.

Planned speakers are as follows:

• July 15: Eco-tourism in Carbon County, Brandon Fogal, president of Pocono Whitewater, will discuss the importance of eco-tourism to our county’s economy.

• July 22: The Carbon County Environmental Education Center, Susan Gallagher, director of the center, will explain the purpose and activities of the center.

• July 29: Painting Pysanky Eggs, Kerry Palumbo, Palmerton high school English teacher, will detail the history and meaning of pysanky eggs, including information on how to paint your very own eggs.

The Kibler School Museum is a restored one-room school that was used by students in Towamensing Township until 1955.

The school at 6495 Pohopoco Drive, Lehighton is maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers, and is open to the public for tours and special events.

Each year the school across from Beltzville State Park and the Christman Trail Parking Area is the location for a series of speakers drawn from the community.

The programs begin at 7 p.m. and are followed by a social hour with drinks and potluck snacks under the trees.

The programs are free and will not be deterred by rain.
