Summit Hill Council indicated it is ready to move ahead with in-person interviews for the previously advertised position of police chief. The borough accepted applications from June 1-15 and the council has narrowed the applicants to seven.
Kokinda suggested each council member submit questions that could be asked during the interviews. Members of the council will sit in on the interviews to observe, and borough Vice President William O’Gurek will ask the questions.
The borough’s department currently has five full-time officers, including chief of police, and also uses part-time officers to serve the community of approximately 3,000 residents in a 10-square mile area.
The chief, under general administrative direction, plans, directs, manages and oversees the activities and operations of the department, including law enforcement, criminal investigations, crime prevention, disaster response, community problem-solving, general community support services and related support services, and coordinates assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies.
The candidate must be Act 120 certified and have MPOETC certification or be MPOETC eligible. All applicants may be subject to a noncompetitive examination, oral review, and/or physical examination.
Council plans to begin the in-person interviews July 7-8, and will contact the applicants to schedule the appointments.
