Palmerton residents reminded of fireworks ordinance

Palmerton residents with ideas of setting off fireworks this Fourth of July holiday may want to review the borough’s fireworks ordinance.

Mayor William A Gallagher briefly discussed the matter at Thursday’s borough council meeting.

Gallagher pointed people to the ordinance, which regulates fireworks.

In August, council adopted a fireworks ordinance that states people aren’t allowed to discharge fireworks in the borough between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m.

Not only does the ordinance limit fireworks; it also makes it clear that they cannot be discharged on borough property.

According to Pennsylvania state law, fireworks are banned from being ignited within 150 feet of an occupied structure, even if no one is present at the time.
